Thank you to everyone who has been praying or otherwise keeping my mom in your thoughts since my last posting. This has been a terrifying week full of ups, downs, twists, and turns. So much fear and uncertainty. So much love and support. A lot of tears. A lot of laughter through the tears.
Let me first say that Maa seems to be on the road to recovery. More accurately, she is carefully backing out of the driveway and looking both ways before merging onto the sidestreet that feeds into the road to recovery. That is good news, for certain. Certainly better than the alternative. Last weekend and into the middle part of the week things were looking very grim indeed, but she is fighting her way back to health, slowly but surely.
I am so glad that one of her daughters is a highly trained and skilled ICU nurse. Her insights may very well have saved Maa’s life. Please know that I do not say that lightly. I am not complaining about the care she has received, but both of my sisters have been fighting and advocating for her every step of the way because she has been far too sick to do so for herself.
Thank you to all of the readers who have dropped me a line or otherwise let me know that you were thinking of my Mom and our family. Knowing how many people are in Maa’s corner has really kept me from unraveling this week. Please continue to keep Mom in your thoughts and prayers. My mom is named Jan Nichols—if you wish to pray for or meditate on her behalf by name.
My dad celebrated his sixty-seventh birthday on Inauguration Day. May he have many more. This week has really brought home how fortunate I am to still have both of my parents. And that they both survived Covid. May I always be truly thankful for this precious gift I have been given. I also feel very acutely how much I miss them and how far away they are—especially with this pandemic still raging. I cannot wait to hug both of their necks in the (hopefully) near future.
Next week I hope to write about something far less fraught.
It has been quite a week.
Nicki has been keeping me updated almost every day. I was thrilled with today’s report. Continuing to keep your mom and all of you in my prayers.
