Below is a link to the poll to help me decide which email to use for the blog. I already purchased toolatesmart.org and toolatesmart.net, by the way. They both just redirect to this substack page. I am not sure if I am going to build them out further. I feel pretty constrained by this newsletter’s editor. It is very simple, but it is completely rudimentary. I am about to Inception y’all with a screencap of this now.
See what I mean? No emojis. No underline or strikethrough. There’s not even an undo button. The most important button since the delete button, and substack doesn’t even have one! It costs me a lot of valuable time fixing things that a simple undo would take care of. I just had to re-embed that image three times, because the margins are really dumb unless you fiddle with them. Fiddle too much and you accidentally erase it. Over and over again.
Harumph, I say!
Embedding video is clunky as well. Nor is there a place to make a page of links. At least not where I can find it. There’s not even a spellchecker—which I am certain you have noticed.
So, will I one day move this project elsewhere? That remains to be seen.
I have a few wonderful and completely unexpected paid subscribers, and about half of them have paid me a year’s subscription in advance, so I won’t be leaving without figuring out how to make sure that they get a very good experience.
I also need to remember that I chose substack precisely because it is simple and easy to keep focus with. The mailing list is updated automatically, and I can easily make special announcements to paying subscribers, unpaid subscribers, or both, with almost no trouble. Starting threads like this one are also easy. But dammit, the editor is subpar. It’s pre-Windows 98 tech. Half of the time I feel like I’m making a GeoCities page about The Jesus and Mary Chain.
Would that be so bad? I used to have a striped shirt like that one that Jim Reid is wearing in the picture below.I thought that I would look cool in it. And I did look cool, if you think that Pugsley Addams is cool. He is.
When I first began this project, I originally expected to have way more video content than I do, and Substack is really not good for that. I think that we’ve talked about why I have not, mostly that the time shooting and editing could be better spent doing my challenges or writing the blog. Speaking of, I still need to write today’s post.
This was originally supposed to be about three sentences long.
A quick poll.

Because I’m not a monster who makes you read about my trip to Bali before I give you the recipe for my mango rice, here is the link for the poll:
