New Job, new schedule, new me?

I have joined the ranks of the gainfully employed.

Since we last spoke I have taken a job as a direct service professional (DSP) for folks that live in a mental health home on the west side of Chicago. I will be doing things like driving the house members in the van to their day program and for outings, cooking dinner for the clients, passing out meds, making sure that the house is clean and sanitary, and just ensuring the health and safety of all the folks that will be under my care. I am very excited to be in a helping field, and to be serving fellow members of the mentally ill community. I think that it is going to be a real adventure (in the good way).

Some changes will be happening with the newsletter. I now work 2:00 p.m. to Midnight on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Instead of trying to post on Fridays, I will be posting on Mondays. Sorry for the mini-hiatus, but I was looking for a job quite intently for the last couple of months and I have also been busy onboarding for my new gig for the past few weeks. There is a lot of paperwork—quite rightly as I will be entrusted with the care of a vulnerable population.

I really think that this new job is one for which I am quite suited, and that I will be able to really excel at. I already like my coworkers and clients as well, which is a very good sign.

Here is a picture of me with the new leather hat band I got for my cowboy hat on Etsy. I grew the mustache for a student film, but Jennifer says I look like a chonky Pedro Pascal, so I’m keeping it for a while.
