Today I played guitar for the first time in weeks, and boy howdy, is my right hand tired. It goes to show how fast we lose any sort of endurance that we build up. Even something as low intensity as playing A, D, and E chords poorly (but with good form) for twenty minutes can disappear in weeks. I’m actually kind of blown away by how fatigued my hands got in such a short period of time. Sic transist gloria mundi, amirite?

The offending instrument. My unnamed, strangely-colored, Chinese Telecaster ripoff.
I will regain my strength very quickly—I just have to do it again tomorrow and the day after, the day after that etc. To put in a relatively small amount of effort regularly, and watch it grow into endurance and skill. Isn’t that the whole point of these challenges?
I certainly think so.
This whole experiment is to try a little hard at some things and see what happens. To give my curmudgeonly, gloomy self a chance to be pleasantly surprised by myself and by life. I am glad to be back at it.
Thank you for all of the kind words.
Many of you lovely folks have written me encouraging emails and messages in the past few days—thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have not read all of them yet, but I will this weekend. I am also going to try to respond to your messages as well, but please don’t be cross with me if it takes me a while to do so. I have only so many writing minutes in me a day, and sometimes after I make a post and work on other things, I’m out. That does not mean that I do not appreciate your kindness and thoughtfulness. Far from it, actually.
Thank you, as always, for reading.
